Custom Hat Maker, True West Hats Relocates to Sedona’s Uptown
True West Hats, a custom fine hat maker, relocates to Sedona, Arizona from Colorado.True West Hat searched for 4 months for a location to move their quality, handmade hat business, instigated by the need to be flexible and innovative during the changing times. They selected Sedona based on its excellent year round tourism, strong locally supported and owned business vibe, and plentiful sunshine and beauty. Coming from Paonia, Colorado, True West Hats decided to shift focus from a small retail location and online sales to finding a long-term home in a more prominent location, bringing a custom hat experience to more customers. True West Hats provides a unique and custom shopping experience for tourists and residents alike. All can visit the shop to watch hats being steamed by hand, purchase a great handmade summer straw or fine fur felt, get a tune up for their hats, or be fitted and design one of their own.
Charles Rutledge, owner and hat maker of True West Hats says, “Moving to Sedona will allow us to continue working directly with people to custom design their very own lifetime hat, something we couldn’t accomplish only online. Our biggest goal was to make our functional art accessible to more people, Sedona is a great location to do this.”
True West Hats owners; Charles Rutledge and April Selman, started making fur felt hats and leather goods in Aspen, Colorado in 2015 for a private label. They then began their own hat making company after moving to Paonia, Colorado in 2017 and in 2018 expanded their offering to include hand-woven straw hats under the brand; SolTree Hats. In 2021, they moved to Sedona, Arizona and opened a custom-made hat shop in Uptown Sedona. True West Hats makes hats by hand with minimal equipment and in many styles; such as fedora, cowboy, and fashion hats using only the finest materials.
